BSA NRA Basic Muzzleloading Course

Course Description:  Teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to the safe and efficient use of muzzleloading guns.  This course focuses on muzzleloading rifles.  Students will spend time both in the classroom and on a shooting range learning terminology, muzzleloading safety, accoutrements, troubleshooting, cleaning, and opportunities for continued practice.

  • Safe Gun Handling
  • General Muzzleloader Knowledge
  • Black Powder
  • Loading Muzzleloading Guns
  • Cleaning a Muzzleloader
  • Shooting a Muzzleloading Rifle from the Cross-sticks Position
  • Shooting Activities and Muzzleloaders 

Recommended Equipment:

Gulfstream Council provides the firearms and ammunition for this class

Eye and ear protection (We have extras on hand for those who do not own these)

A hat is highly recommended

A cooler with food and liquids for the entire day (we will take breaks, but no lunch or snacks will be served)

Pen and paper for taking notes
