Course Description:  This course will certify Instructor candidates to teach the NRA Home Firearm Safety Course.  Home Firearm Safety is a non-shooting course which teaches students the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary for the safe handling and storage of firearms and ammunition in the home.  (Home Firearm Safety is the only NRA course that does not have a live firearm portion.)  Students demonstrate organizational and teaching skills via participation in practical exercises during the course and complete an instructor certification examination.  Instructor Candidates should allow ample study time as we distribute course materials upon payment to be read prior to the class.

Subjects Covered:

  • Introduction to NRA Home Firearm Safety Course Lesson Plans
  • Teaching Gun Safety Rules, Firearm Identification, and Unloading
  • Teaching Safe Gun Handling Practical Exercises, Ammunition, Firearm Cleaning and Storage

Prerequisites: NRA Basic Instructor Training (BIT) should be current within the past 24 months or will need to be taken prior to credentials being issued.  Prior to the instructor training, candidates complete a pre-course questionnaire and demonstrate their firearms background in pre-course assessment exercises.

Treasure Coast Firearms Training will provide the guns for this course

A cooler with food and liquids for the entire day (we will take breaks, but no lunch or snacks will be served)

Pen and paper for taking notes
